Views & direct MDX

Start from a saved view, then use an object-specific query when you need more control.

Choose a source

Under Tables / Charts → Add or Edit, select the cube and saved view. A saved-view object reads that TM1 view on Update. Its rows and columns can therefore change when the source view changes.

Use the selected view as an MDX starting point

  1. Select the intended view

Check the cube and view names before switching.

  2. Click Use MDX

ADM loads the selected view's query into the editor and loads its dimensions. Native views are converted into a query using their current layout.

  3. Edit and validate

Change the query, then click Load dimensions. Typing alone does not run it. Resolve any validation error before saving.

  4. Set display and save

Choose Table or a chart in Settings. Save the definition and insert or update the object.

The query is stored with the ADM definition; ADM does not create or overwrite a TM1 view. Later changes to the original named view do not rewrite this saved query. The query must select from the chosen cube.

Return to a saved view

Click Use view, select the required view and Save. This removes the direct query from the saved definition. Copy a query you want to retain before switching back.

Filters and advanced sets

Simple context members can follow report filters. In Word and PowerPoint, supported direct-MDX row or column axes offer Advanced in the object details dialog (Objects → information button): Children, Descendants, Leaves or LastPeriods(n). Advanced starts from the current report filter member. Hold keeps a fixed member instead. See Filter, Hold and Advanced.

Advanced is not available for saved views or arbitrary query expressions. Crossjoins, mixed tuples and complex nested sets may require editing the MDX directly. A WHERE slicer remains a single-member selection.

Review the result

Check returned members, periods, totals and row/column order. Chart colors and patterns follow the resulting category or series order, so a query that reorders members also changes which palette entry applies.
